Greta’s Mammoth Blog – Sunday, January 11, 2009 Entry

Greetings ALL!

I hope everyone enjoyed a happy and healthy holiday season!

Sorry I have been out of communication for a few months.  I have been recalibrating and getting ready for 2009.  Now, it is here, so I will report on what has been happening with me.

I have been enjoying skiing on the mountain!  We have had some extremely frigid days and some exceptionally warm days.  Today, is beautiful in the 40’s.

My daughter and son came to Mammoth for the holidays and that was nice.  We spent most of our spare time just hanging around our beautiful home in the woods in Mammoth.  Both kids are back to college now.  Nicole in San Francisco, and Tyler at UC Irvine.

Toby and I spent a whole month together, which is a record for us.  Usually, we have 3 to 5 days together and then split up for 10 to 14 days.  It was wonderful being together for the month.  We went to San Francisco, we hung out in Mammoth, we went to Orange County and we went back to Mammoth.

Toby had his annual boat parade party at his home in Huntington Harbour.  It was a success.  Lots of our friends showed up, including, one of my best friends from High School, Donna Puccio Butler.  She is such a kick.  We had so much fun talking about stupid things we did when we were teenagers.  That I won’t get into.

Last Thursday I flew from LAX to Mammoth via Horizon Airlines.  I’ll tell you, it was one of the most awesome experiences for me.  I love the Bombardier Q400 Jet Prop plane.  It takes off very fast and flies low.  It was a very clear day and we were immediately flying over the coast line.  The beaches looked so beautiful from the air, then we were on top of the mountains and stayed there for the majority of the flight.  The flight attendants were very nice.  They also serve free beer and wine on that flight for the alcohol enthusiasts out there.  I was able to take my dog into the cabin in a special doggie bag and she stayed underneath the seat in front of me.  She had never flown before and let out a couple of yelps.  I would just tell her everything was fine and she’d relax.  When we were in the air the pilot came on the PA and said we would be to Mammoth in 50 minutes.  He also said that we could expect some bumpy air as the winds were blowing at 12-15 knots at the Mammoth/Yosemite Airport.

I am very glad I took my Bonine (seasickness pill), because it was like being on a roller coaster for a good 10 minutes!  Surprisingly, as we came down to the runway everything smoothed out for a perfect landing!  Whew, my next flight is scheduled for Monday the 19th.

My goal for 2009 is to buckle down and stick to a relatively strict schedule.  No more sleeping in!  Even when Toby is in town, we are waking up at 6:00 a.m.!  There is plenty to do, especially when there are bills to be paid, including tuition and housing!

That’s it for now.

Greta

ADVOCATES FOR MAMMOTH INFORMATION BULLETIN – CLEARWATER AND SNOWCREEK VIII

Recently both the Clearwater and Snowcreek VIII Neighborhood District Plans (NDP) came before the Planning Commission for approval.  The Clearwater NDP was approved and the Snowcreek VIII NDP was referred back to the consultant.

The  proposed Clearwater NDP establishes new zoning standards and is scheduled before the Town Council on October 1 for approval.  As approved by the Planning Commission it clears the way for the project applicant to receive the increased density and height, and decreased setback that is being requested in the proposed Clearwater Project plan.  The Community will need to be heard when the project proposal comes before the Planning Commission and the Town Council.

There is also a Clearwater NDP workshop scheduled on the September 17 Town Council meeting agenda.  We assume public comment will also be taken at this time.   Your comments and concerns can be forwarded to the Council members listed at the end of this email.

The Snowcreek VIII NDP was not approved but the Planning Commission decided no further public workshops are necessary.  The consultant was directed to return to the Planning Commission with a final report on remaining unaddressed issues.   At that time it is assumed the Planning Commission will approve this NDP.   The Commission also favored at this time the consultant’s highest density Option proposal for the future project.

We’ll keep you informed when this next comes up before the Planning Commission so that you may have your voice heard.
